ECHAGUE, PHILIPPINES – October 15, 2026 – A delegation of academics successfully completed the second day and concluded the international Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) community engagement program at Isabela State University (ISU), Philippines, on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Held at the Main Campus Computer Laboratory of ISU in Echague, the second day’s agenda focused on the Multimodal Text and Media Production Studio, which included the creation of Canva infographics and the production of educational vlogs.
This event stood out as a remarkable international community engagement collaboration involving three distinct institutions: Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar), Institut Turatea Indonesia (INTI), and Isabela State University. Each campus took a vital and specific role in ensuring the program’s success. The onsite sessions were directly guided by Lead Facilitator Ismail Sangkala and Sulkifli from Unismuh Makassar, alongside Dr. Ali Syahban Amir from INTI who provided crucial onsite support and facilitation.
The intensive training began with an attendance check, a review of the academic identity outputs from the first day, and an orientation aimed at achieving a 100% launch of the participants’ digital portfolios. The learning process then advanced to an in-depth exploration of Multimodal Pedagogy and the FAMILY Framework (Form, Audience, Message, Integration, Link, Why) presented by Ismail Sangkala, where participants were taught to integrate Aristotelian rhetoric—Ethos, Pathos, and Logos—into their visual designs. Equipped with this understanding, the participants were directed to the Canva Academic Infographic Studio to design visual works based on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 on Climate Action, specifically highlighting the Cagayan River issue.
Moving into the afternoon, the facilitators led the Educational Vlog Production Studio. Students were encouraged to create three-minute videos by applying Translanguaging strategies—combining English, Tagalog, and Ilocano—to reduce their oral communication anxiety when discussing social and environmental issues. The pinnacle of the participants’ creativity was showcased during the digital Padlet Exhibition, where each group uploaded their infographic and vlog creations, presented them, and conducted peer reviews. The seamless execution of these complex digital activities was made possible through dedicated remote support from Indonesia. Lecturer Dzur Rif’ah Mahmudah, along with Unismuh Makassar student team members Mutmainnah and Achmad Auckschan, efficiently managed the digital repositories, monitored the Padlet exhibition gallery, and facilitated the live leaderboard updates from afar. This dynamic combination of onsite and remote facilitation beautifully demonstrated the true essence of a global COIL initiative.
The workshop series officially concluded with a Post-Test to measure the participants’ competency improvement through gain score comparisons, followed by the announcement of Leaderboard winners and the awarding of Digital Badges. The Director of the ISU Language Center, Dr. MA. Theresa L. Eustaquio, then led the official closing ceremony and presented certificates to the participants, marking a highly successful cross-border collaboration.
